Richard L. Wilson（美術・考古学）
Richard L. Wilson teaches art and archaeology in the Department of Art and Music, ICU. Born in New York City, he holds a B.A. from Franklin and Marshall and a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Kansas. His research specialty is in Japanese painting, craft design and archaeology of the Edo and Meiji periods. As a Fulbright and Japan Studies Fellow, he studied the history of art at Kyoto City University of Fine Arts. He began teaching at ICU in 1993. Among his books and articles are: The Art of Ogata Kenzan: Persona and Production in Japanese Ceramics（New York: Weatherhill, 1991); Ogata Kenzan: His Life and Work (with Ogasawara Saeko; Tokyo: Yuzankaku, 1992); Inside Japanese Ceramics: A Primer of Materials, Techniques, and Traditions、(Weatherhill, 1995), Carved Paper: The Art of the Japanese Stencil (with S. Kuo and T. Michie; New York, Weatherhill, 1998); Introduction to Kenzan Ware (with Ogasawara Saeko; Tokyo: Yuzankaku, 1999); The Potter's Brush: The Kenzan Style in Japanese Ceramics、(Smithsonian Institution, 2001).

"Family Ties and Artistic Creation: the Ogata brothers, Korin and Kenzan"（英語開講）
When we hear the word "family" we usually think of values such as love, support, trust, etc. How do these value appear in artistic collaboration? This lecture, illustrated with slides, will apply this question of to Japanese art, specifically to the Edo period and the famous artists and brothers Ogata Korin (尾形光琳 1658-1716) and Kenzan (尾形乾山 1663－1743). We will look specifically at the ways in which Korin and Kenzan supported each other, both personally and professionally.

近代化の過程で生み出されたのが「家庭」であり、その「家庭」にまつわる規範がいかに私たちの日常を縛っているのかをこの講義で明らかにしていく。そして、「家庭」に対する新たな意味づけを行うことによって、その「しばり」からの脱却の可能性を皆で探っていきたい。

Life in the Modern World brings many dangers to families. Some of the dangers are hidden and difficult to spot and some of the most difficult to spot dangers are in the food and drink we consume. Recent events in Japan with companies such as Meat Hope and Shiroi Koibito show this clearly. This lecture will look at some of the hidden dangers in the food and drink we regularly consume and how to avoid these dangers, as if we can teach our families how to avoid these dangers they can have a better quality of life.
